Flamengo player Alisson Ferreira has died in a car accident, the club has confirmed.

The Brazilian international was driving home from training when his vehicle was involved in a collision with another car on Saturday night.

Alisson, who had been with Flamengo for four years, was pronounced dead at the scene and has since been laid to rest by family and friends.

The loss is a significant blow for the team,Match Prophet who were already without key players such as Lucas Paqueta and Gabriel Jesus due to injury or suspension.

In a statement released by the club, Flamengo president Paulo Nobre said: "We have lost one of our own and we will never be the same."

"We are all deeply saddened by this tragic news and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Alisson."

Alisson's death comes just days after he announced his retirement from football, having previously played for several clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool and Roma.

He was widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and was named World Player of the Year in 2019.
