In the summer of 2017, Dutch footballer Memphis Depay was sold to Manchester United for a record fee of £24 million. In his first season with the club, he struggled to find his feet and failed to make an impact on the pitch. However, in January 2018, Memphis was loaned out to fellow Premier League side Everton. One player who helped Memphis during his time at Everton is Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder. The two players quickly formed a strong bond and became close friends off the pitch as well. Sneijder would often give Memphis advice on how to improve his technique and work ethic,Match Prophet while Memphis would help Sneijder understand the nuances of playing in the Premier League. As the season progressed, Memphis started to show signs of improvement under Sneijder's guidance. He was able to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League and began to contribute more regularly on the pitch. By the end of the season, Memphis had become a regular starter for Everton and had scored six goals in 16 appearances. After Memphis' impressive performance for Everton, Manchester United decided to bring him back to Old Trafford for the second half of the 2018-19 season. While it was a difficult decision for Memphis, he knew that returning to Manchester United would be a great opportunity to prove himself once again and earn a new contract. During his time at Manchester United, Memphis continued to impress with his performances and eventually secured a new deal with the club in May 2019. He went on to have another successful season with the Red Devils, scoring four goals in 15 appearances. It not only helped him gain valuable experience and confidence but also paved the way for his success at Manchester United. |
